"A Very Queer Ballet: TRANScendence"

"A Very Queer Ballet: TRANScendence" is a contemporary dance work that brings LGBTQ+ representation to the dance world and explores concepts of gender, time, and queer existence. Directed by WWU dance student Atlas Hovdesven with an incredible team of student dancers, choreographers, and technicians. This project is dedicated to every trans and genderqueer who has struggled to find their place in dance communities. Dance should be a place of boundless self-expression, not hostility and discrimination.

AVQB's second production, "TRANScendence", explores the experiences of a trans person, River, at three different points in his life. River faces dysphoria, challenging social dynamics, and finding peace in his identity. Cost: $15-$30.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
