Festive Felt Stocking Ornament Workshop

'Tis the season to get crafty! If you’ve been thinking about giving wet felting a try, this is the perfect opportunity. In this playful class with Seattle fiber artist Flóra Carlile-Kovács, you’ll learn how felting happens, from learning key techniques to blending different fiber colors while working on a hollow shape.

Flóra will have various yarns and fibers on hand to create rich surfaces and add some silk fabric pieces to explore the lamination felt technique. After taking this class, you’ll have an understanding of how to felt hollow shapes on your own, such as purses, hats, mittens, or slippers. Don’t miss this chance to create a keepsake ornament designed and felted by you!

Flóra Carlile-Kovács has been teaching felt making on all levels since 2005 and leading Felt Tours to Hungary annually since 2016. She lives and works in Seattle, Washington. This class is suitable for beginner felters. Class registration includes a materials fee and admission to the Whatcom Museum.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
