Lightweight Nunofelt Scarf Workshop

Join Seattle fiber artist Flóra Carlile-Kovács for an introduction to nunofelting in this day-long workshop for intermediate and experienced felters. Nunofelt is created by weaving wool fibers onto a sheer silk fabric to create a layered, textured design.

In this class, you’ll learn the basics of nunofelt and troubleshoot common errors. Learn the best fibers and fabrics for this technique and receive guidance about creating clean felted lines on silk fabric. You’ll leave this class with new fiber arts knowledge and a beautiful custom-made nunofelt scarf.

Flóra Carlile-Kovács has been teaching felt making on all levels since 2005 and leading Felt Tours to Hungary annually since 2016. She lives and works in Seattle, Washington. This class is suitable for intermediate to advanced felters. Participants should be comfortable standing and bending over for long periods of time to complete this project.

Class registration includes material fees and admission to the Whatcom Museum.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
