FRUIT -- Rachel Foreman Watercolors
Rachel's still life works span several decades and consist of seven dozen watercolors that mostly have never been seen. A life long artist with beginnings in New York and Tennessee, then Bellingham, she always avails herself with natural light, and limits the work to a narrow block of time.
She observes actual fruit she arranges, and completes each painting in one sitting. Artists she admires, whose work has not only provided inspiration but also enhanced her very existence, are Giorgio Morandi, Paul Cézanne, and Pierre Bonnard. A local artist, the late John Cole, has also been an influence, reminding her that detail is less important than the larger forms, and color can be simplified and pushed. That the painter is not just rendering things, but rather presenting a view.
All works are available for purchase, most are loose in sleeves, and 4th Corner Frames (across the hall from the Meloy Gallery) offers a framing discount.
