Understanding the Fungi Kingdom with Northwest Natura

Join outdoor educator, naturalist, and experienced forager, Jazmen Yoder, for this comprehensive, interactive seminar to get prepared for foraging on your own! We’ll cover essential skills and knowledge to safely and responsibly forage wild mushrooms in your area. 

Fungi Basics – What is a mushroom? Mushroom ecology – seasonality and habitats explained Learn the key differences between morels and chanterelles (Ascomycota vs Basidiomycota). Symbiotic fungal relationships – plants, lichen, and more. Introduction to dichotomous keys and how to use them for identification. Through lecture, demonstration, and a hands-on activity, you’ll gain confidence and know-how for the next mushroom foraging season. Whether you’re a beginner or have some foraging experience, these workshops will provide the fundamentals of responsible mushroom foraging to prepare you for a bountiful mushroom season.
