PNW Naturalist Series - Wilderness Skills w/ Northwest Natura (Day 3)

This series is designed for adult individuals at any skill level who are interested in ramping up their survival skills while having fun “surviving” outdoors and learning about plants, wildlife, fire craft, foraging, and ethnobotany. Each class will focus on both wilderness and naturalist skills to deepen your awareness of the natural world and empower you with practical knowledge and confidence in yourself out in PNW late winter conditions.

Day 3: Emergency First Aid Basics, Wildlife Tracking, and Spring Edibles Participants will learn emergency first aid for outdoor scenarios including treating cuts, sprains, and exposure. We will simulate minor injuries and students will practice their response. In the final half of our last day together we’ll go for a walk by the river to identify wildlife track & sign, and identify and taste spring edibles.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
