Winter Birds of Lake Padden: Guided Bird Walk

Curious about the incredible winter bird species we have here in Bellingham? Join professional naturalist and experienced birder Kate Brown for a relaxed Sunday morning bird walk around Lake Padden. We will chat about what to look and listen for while birding, discuss some of the common wetland species we are likely to spot and what makes them unique- then set out with our binoculars to see what amazing birds we can spot!

Bring your coffee, donuts, and any binoculars you might have (I own a few to share!)

Species commonly sighted here include diverse winter ducks, red-breasted nuthatch, brown creepers, woodpeckers, and bald eagles. Find Us: We will be meeting at the covered pavilion near the playground, accessible using the east entrance to Lake Padden.

After turning off Samish Way onto Lake shore drive, continue driving until you see the playground - if you hit the dog park youv'e gone too far!

Starts: February 08, 2026

Time: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Admission: $20 or 2 for $35

Location: Lake Padden Covered Playground Pavilion

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
