Crankie Show! Handmade Moving Picture Stories

Bellingham Folk Festival

The Crankie Factory is Sue Truman (fiddler and crankie maker), Jerry Gallaher (banjo and vocals), and WB Reid (guitar, fiddle and vocals). Their performance will tell stories of how music, dance and craft can have helped our ancestors get through troubled times and how it helps us today.

Sue Truman has been making, performing, and teaching crankie making for the last 14 years. Her website, The Crankie Factory, has over a million views and is the “go to” place for information. She has presented and performed in Europe and both US and Canadian coasts.

Annie Schermer & Tilly Bishop will also share crankies, and there will be ballads sung by Evan Ingals and stories by Harper Stone sprinkled through the show. Sue will also be leading a crankie-making workshop at BAAY Sunday January 25th, 11:00 am – 12:15 pm!

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
