Rising Tide Speaker Series with Vina Brown | Ancestral Geometry: She Wove Without Hunger

Join Paper Whale for the Rising Tide speaker series, featuring Vina Brown (Haíɫzaqv and Nuu-chah-nulth)—a scholar, artist and wellness advocate whose work centers on honoring Earth, culture and community.

The evening begins with live jazz from the Mark Hunter Trio, followed by live art from Rose Drummond, short stories from local changemakers as part of the “Small Wins” series and a keynote presentation from Vina on the topic of "Ancestral Geometry: She Wove Without Hunger." Stick around after the program for an afterparty with Cuban Dance Project. Take a different approach to your Friday night and connect with your community through story, music and shared experience. Rising Tide is generously supported by the Project Neighborly Fund of the Whatcom Community Foundation.

Tickets by donation from $10.

Starts: April 10, 2026

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
