Cabinet of Curiosities Class Info Session – Free

April 22 is Earth Day! What a way to celebrate: curating a collection of your favorite items from nature. Everyone is fascinated by something in nature, and these “cabinets” are a great way to showcase that love.

In this information session, I will share with you what we will do in the April 18 class Create Your Own Cabinet of Curiosity. I have a long fascination with nature, which led me to get a certificate in natural science illustration. During this experience, I learned more about cabinets of curiosity, the precursor to modern museums. Maintaining a collection of artifacts is immensely helpful in drawing nature. But these cabinets aren’t limited to leaves and feathers. You can include found objects, like keys and pen caps. A cabinet of curiosity is a collection specific to you. In this free session, I will show you how you will also fall in love with cabinets of curiosity.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
