Beginning Jewelry: Sea Glass Pendant

In this workshop you will learn the basics of setting sea glass. Everyone loves finding sea glass, and everyone wants to make it into a beautiful pendant that will showcase the little found gems. Students will learn how to cut metal and create a bezel setting for sea glass. Students are encouraged to bring several pieces of sea glass, or bags of it. Honestly, I know we all have jars of it filled at home. However, we will select ONE piece of sea glass. Preferably smaller than an inch, with a flat smooth bottom and soft, rounded edges. We will then turn that little gem into a stunning, elegant pendant. Students will have the option of working in sterling silver, copper or brass.

Materials fee will vary depending on materials used. Students will leave class with a solid foundation of metal smithing skills and a beautiful new sea-worthy pendant!

Class Fee: $148

Ages: 16+

Materials to Bring:

Please bring several pieces of sea glass, a pencil and notebook/sketchbook, wear closed-toe shoes, and keep long hair tied back. We will take a lunch break, so please bring a bagged lunch or money for lunch out. Materials fee depends on the fair market value of silver and may fluctuate based on the market.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
