Embroidered Watercolor Workshop: Robin and Daffodil

REGISTRATION DEADLINE Friday, April 24, 12:00pm

Spring is upon us and what screams “spring” more than American robins and daffodil blooms. The illustration uses sunshine yellow and rusty red with a new green background. In this class, we will put together the flowing luminescent colors of watercolor with the texture and depth of embroidery. I started using these techniques together after recovering from carpal tunnel. I found that the greater variety of motions helped prevent the onset of my pain.

Together, we will learn about loose watercolor painting and embroidery on paper by experimenting with each technique before applying it to our final illustration. Join me for a playful time experimenting with combining techniques. You do not need to have experience in either watercolor painting or embroidery, but if you do have experience, you will be able to create an even more customized illustration. We will provide all the materials you need in class: paper, paints and brushes, and embroidery floss and needles.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
