Emulsion Transfer Workshop

Emulsion transfers give an artist another process of putting ink on paper and creating a unique print. We will work from digital files printed onto an emulsion dual film in either color or black and white as you choose. This is not the old hand sanitizer process you may have played with, but a workflow and materials that allow you scale and creative choices. We will be able to use most types of papers to do this from watercolor to exotic washi.

This is a two day course with an open day in between to allow adequate drying time. Day 1 will be preparing images to transfer and paper preparation. Day 2 will be making prints. The day in between is free. This process doesn’t require specialized equipment so it’s a process that you can take home and use. All materials will be supplied and are included in the course fee. All you need is 4-6 images as digital files that you want to work with.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
