Procession of the Species

Mark your calendars — Whatcom County’s favorite celebration of art, nature, and community is back! We’re teaming up with Gabriel’s Art Kids again, on the Procession of the Species parade and festival bringing color, creativity, and fun to downtown Bellingham.

Families, friends, and neighbors are invited to dress as their favorite animals, create dazzling costumes, and join the fun. After the parade, stick around for live music, interactive performances, face painting, and hands-on art activities. Procession of the Species also coincides with the 2026 Children’s Art Walk beginning on May 1, making for a fantastic weekend of creativity and community!

Starts at Bellingham High School, ends at Maritime Heritage Park.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
