Kelp and Seaweed Foraging Kayak Tour

Join us for a kelp foraging kayak tour and harvest seaweed straight from the boat! Kayaks are the ideal platform for harvesting bull kelp and other seaweeds, allowing us to reach floating kelp beds, nearshore forests, and intertidal zones that are often inaccessible from land. Much of the best seaweed habitat exists just offshore, making paddling not just part of the experience—but essential to it.

Throughout the day, you’ll learn how to identify local kelp and seaweed species, understand seasonal availability, and practice safe, sustainable harvesting techniques rooted in respect for the ecosystem. If you hold a valid Washington State seaweed harvesting license, you are welcome to harvest and take home seaweed during the trip.

Trips are scheduled on Mondays & Saturdays in correspondence with the lowest tides of the month. Custom trips available on request.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
