Birchwood Garden Club's May Meeting

Doors open at 6:30 PM.

We have a special speaker for May! Nita-Jo Rountree has many accolades: Past president of the NW Horticultural Society, frequent speaker at NW Flower and Garden Show & Portland Garden show, board member of numerous Garden Societies, plus… she ran a landscape design/installation company for many years. The presentation is on one of her favorite topics—Hydrangeas.

Her synopsis should be an indication of the evening’s entertainment… Hydrangeas: What? How? Wow! The program will include illustrations of the latest and greatest, tried and true, and rare and unusual cultivars; how to care for them including pruning techniques, how to dry flowers, and how to use them in the garden. Nita-Jo’s slides will ensure that you come away with a greater appreciation and a hankering for more Hydrangeas. Spring is a nice time to plant that new garden star.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
