40th Anniversary Happy Hour with Tom Fleischner & Saul Wiesberg

For forty years, the North Cascades Institute has believed transformation happens outdoors—in mossy forests, along singing rivers, under open skies. This spring, we’re honoring those roots.

On Saturday, May 23, join co-founders Tom Fleischner and Saul Weisberg for a special 40th anniversary gathering at Trackside Beer Garden on Bellingham's waterfront from 3:30PM - 5:30PM. Afterwards, head over to Village Books at 6:00PM for a celebration of Tom's latest book "Astonished By Beauty: A Field Guide to the Practice of Paying Attention".

The evening will include inspiring readings from Tom's new work, and a conversation between Tom and Saul on the Institute’s early days, the power of natural history, and why this work matters now.

Our roots run deep. They hold. Come be part of what’s growing next. Mark your calendars & RSVP today!

Starts: May 23, 2026

Time: Happy Hour 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. | Reading 6 p.m.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
