Wildcrafter's Workshop: Wild Ivy Basketry with Northwest Natura

Please join me for an afternoon in the woods in early autumn to remove ecologically-harmful English Ivy from the woodland and turn those vines into beautiful baskets! Dabblers, beginners, intermediate, and advanced weavers will enjoy this creative, social gathering.

In this course you will learn: English Ivy characteristics, growth habit, ecological impact, and dispersal. Ethical harvesting of English Ivy, safety precautions, and land steward tactics. How to process English Ivy for basket weaving material. How to rehydrate dried vines for basket weaving. The twining technique and information on other forms of basketry.

*Please wear warm outdoor clothing. We will be outdoors for the entirety of the workshop. More information provided online. *Please register via the event website.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
