Laura Joy Lloyd - Far From Unremarkable

Canadian-American Author Spinning Stories About Baby Boomers & The Salish Sea To Speak At Village Books In Fairhaven Fans of Laura Joy Lloyd’s debut novel, Interesting Enough (June 2025), will recognize fictional Wren Island as the setting for her latest novel, Far From Unremarkable (May 2026), a heartwarming story about a 70-year-old man who becomes a trusted member of his new community—unaware he is inextricably linked to one neighbor’s enduring grief.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, with ancestral connections to British Columbia’s Gulf Islands, Lloyd has always been intrigued by how real-life experiences influence storytelling. Through an innovative style she calls interactive serialized fiction, Lloyd invites readers to influence Wren Island novels in real time as she writes. Lloyd will offer an Author Talk and Q&A in the Readings Gallery of Village Books, Fairhaven, at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, October 9.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
