BIPOC Walks: Welcoming Fall at Whatcom Falls

BIPOC Walks is a program by and for people of color to build community while spending time outdoors in Bellingham. We meet in a different accessible park once a month, typically on Saturdays, to get curious about local nature. This program is family-friendly and open to all ages. Outings are always facilitated by people of color, with each month having a slightly different focus/theme.

In September, we will start our outing with some donuts and potluck snacks (feel free to bring a treat with you to share, but this is completely optional/no-pressure). We will then get curious about how water connects both human cultures and entire ecosystems, and discuss the importance of this creek for Indigenous Peoples in our region since time immemorial.

We will then look for, and appreciate, the first signs of the shifting seasons, take a stroll along the creek and waterfall, and get curious about the amazing nature thriving in this park thanks to the abundant water.

Starts: September 26, 2026

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
