Bellingham Chamber Music Society at the Hotel Leo: Contrasts
Join the Bellingham Chamber Music Society for an afternoon of chamber music. We are delighted to present 2 composers featured in Leah Broad’s book 'Quartet: How Four Women Challenged the Musical World'.
Rebecca Clarke's, Three Pieces for 2 violins and piano is full of lush melodies and energetic dialogue between instruments. Dorothy Howell's Air, Variations, and Finale is a beautiful, lyrical work for oboe, violin, and piano. 'Tides of Solitude' scored for the unusual combination of bassoon, violin, cello and piano is a high energy and haunting work by Katerina Souponetsky, a living composer based in Philadelphia.
The concert concludes with Bartok’s Contrasts for violin, clarinet and piano, a tour-de-force co-commissioned by Bartok’s violin friend, Joseph Szigeti and American jazz clarinetist, Benny Goodman, that combines idioms from traditional classical, Hungarian and Romanian folk music, and American jazz. Join us for our post-concert reception!
