Earth Day is an opportunity to give back to the planet we all call home.
There are several outdoor activities happening in Whatcom County to show some love to the earth and the community. Whether you prefer cleaning up local beaches or getting your hands dirty potting plants, there is something for everyone among the flora and fauna.
Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, 2018 – and there are various events happening throughout the weekend. (It’s also the start of Bellingham Beer Week!)
Saturday, April 21, 2018
On this day you will be able to drop off items at Northwest Recycling including scrap metal and yard waste for free. They will have hot dogs, fruit and drinks for those who recycle!
Come celebrate Earth Day with food donated by Boundary Bay and live music while restocking the native plant nursery of Nooksack Salmon Enhancement. The first 200 people to arrive will receive a free limited edition t-shirt.
Join one of Bellingham’s beloved breweries and help them clean up Whatcom Creek that flows alongside their breweries. Bring your¬†gloves, trash bags and enthusiasm for some discounted beer after!
Sunday, April 22, 2018
Since Earth Day falls within the same week as Bellingham Beer Week, you can even drink beer for a good cause. Join Aslan Brewing as they celebrate with the Captain Planet IPA release, and all sales will be donated to Surfrider Foundation. At 3:30, meet at Aslan for a free ride from the Baker Bus to head to Locust Beach for a Beach Clean up. For those who would like to drive, arrive at the beach at 4 p.m.
At 6 p.m., there will be a fundraising raffle at Aslan featuring surf films and presentation.
Join Lydia Place for Earth Day and help out with street cleaning, gardening and organizing. There are two projects to chose from – contact Lydia Place and let them know which one you would be most interested in.
