Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department publishes a great little booklet called "Places to Play in Bellingham: Playgrounds and courts in Bellingham City Parks" and I got a copy when we got them in here at the Visitor Info Center (they are FREE, by the way). So it's been at home in a little mail holder we have and sometimes the kids flip through and look at the playground pictures. This weekend, I decided to let one of my little guys pick one. He perused them carefully and settled on #11, Elizabeth Park. We've never been to Elizabeth Park, so we packed up and headed over. It's located in the Columbia neighborhood, surrounded by Washington, Walnut, Madison and Elizabeth Streets. I'll add a Google map to the bottom for those who are directionally defunct, such as myself. :) The park is lovely, with tons of shaded green space with towering deciduous trees, a basketball court, gazebo, fountain surrounded by park benches, public restrooms, tennis courts and a playground. It's also one of the homes of the city's summer concert series. I look forward to the summer when it's warmer and we can spend more time there - it was still a bit brisk this weekend. And I've never been to a summer concert here in Bellingham, so 2011 seems as good a time as any to start! We're going to try to do a park a week (weather permitting). Here's a few shots of my kidlets at the playground. My favorite was the slide races, especially when one would go before I said, "GO!"
