With an abundance of nature just outside our doors, camping is among the most popular summer activities for families in Bellingham and Whatcom County.


State Parks

The region is home to two beautiful Washington State Parks near the water:

  • Larrabee State Park to the south of Bellingham on Chuckanut Drive
  • Birch Bay State Park to the north of Bellingham.

County Parks

  • Silver Lake Park located in the Mount Baker Foothills, accessible from the Mt. Baker Highway and Silver Lake Road.

National Forest

National Forest land occupies much of the eastern side of Whatcom County and is maintained by the U.S. Forest Service. Camping is available at numerous campgrounds at Baker Lake, including:

  • Horseshoe Cove Campground

Backcountry camping is also accessible in the Mount Baker – Snoqualmie National Forest.


The North Cascades Learning Center
