The Downtown Bellingham Partnership (DBP) announced today the return of Bellingham's Downtown Sounds concert series for 2019. In its 15th year, the 2019 series includes popular returning bands as well as national acts. The expanded layout introduced last year will also return; featuring an improved beer + wine garden and additional family activities during the event.
The 15th anniversary artist lineup features bands from across the country, offering music spanning different genres on each date.
2019 Lineup:
- July 10: An Evening with Polecat & Friends (Bluegrass/Americana)
- July 17: The Grammy Award-Winning Rebirth Brass Band w/ Raincity (Brass Band/Funk)
- July 24: Orchestra Zarabanda w/ Bilongo Quintet & Sabrina Gomez (Salsa/Cuban/Jazz)
- July 31: Sepiatonic w/ Analog Brass (Electro-Vaudeville-Dance Party/Brass-House)
- August 7: Monophonics w/ Willdabeast (Soul)
Downtown Sounds takes place each Wednesday from July 10 through August 7, with doors to the outdoor concert area opening at 5:30pm. Each Downtown Sounds will include food options, the Beer + Wine Garden featuring local beer and cider and exclusive wines from Haggen Food & Pharmacy and family-friendly activities. Downtown Sounds is free and open to the public, with the beer and wine garden restricted to those age 21 and over.
“After 15 years, this event has really grown into something spectacular,” Lindsey Payne Johnstone, Events Director for the Downtown Bellingham Partnership, said. “Sounds is our most popular event year after year, and we can’t wait to bring you what we have in store for this year.”
The diverse lineup and expanded activities were done in partnership with Downtown Sounds’ Premier Sponsor, WECU. As part of their support for the event, the Family Alley area will feature the WECU Game Zone, including spike ball, giant “WECU pong,” cornhole and giant Jenga. WECU will also be handing out different summertime treats for attendees, like ice cream sandwiches, La Croix and other beverages.
“We love supporting events that build community,” Keith Mader, WECU’s Program Manager for PR & Content, said. “Year after year, Downtown Sounds has done just that. We’re proud to partner with the Downtown Bellingham Partnership as the Premier Sponsor for Downtown Sounds. Come dance with us!”
Downtown Sounds relies on many community partners and volunteers for support. Additional support comes from Haggen Food & Pharmacy, Groove Merchant Northwest, Boundary Bay Brewery, Freeland Engineering, SPARK Museum, Best Western Heritage Inn, Wild Buffalo, Bayou on Bay and the City of Bellingham.
“Support from our community is the cornerstone of this event,” Payne Johnstone said.” It may sound cliché, but we really couldn’t do it without them.”
