11th Annual Compete for a Cause Cribbage Tournament at Boundary Bay Sept. 9

The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center and Boundary Bay Brewery in Bellingham invite all ages to register for the 11th Annual Compete for a Cause Cribbage Tournament, Saturday, September 9, 10:00 a.m. - 3 p.m., in the Boundary Bay Beer Garden. Advanced Registration is $25, $30 at the door (students and seniors $20 in adv. or, $25 at the door). Online, as well as paper registration is at whatcomdrc.org/cribbagetournament/. Register in person at Boundary Bay Brewery. Advanced registration is encouraged for this popular, annual, family- friendly event. The one of a kind Whatcom County fundraising event also includes: a food truck, music, and a raffle for a full day of fun. The name of each year’s winner is displayed on a “perpetual plaque” at both Boundary Bay Brewery and the WDRC. Participants will battle through a round robin and single elimination tournament, guaranteeing everyone at least two games. Non-winners will be invited to play at a second chance table. All ages and experience levels are welcome to participate. “Cribbage is one of those games that young and old, stranger and friend can play together in good spirited fun. It’s an all-inclusive way to put a positive spin on conflict—through friendly competition,” said Moonwater, WDRC Executive Director and cribbage aficionado. All proceeds benefit the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center (WDRC) in their mission to provide and promote constructive and collaborative approaches to conflict through mediation, training, facilitation and community education. Offering conflict prevention and intervention services for businesses, organizations, individuals, and families, WDRC seeks to help community members to better manage conflict as it arises, and to learn ways to minimize the possibility of it occurring.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
