2026 Ski to Sea Registration Is SOLD OUT

Whatcom Events is stunned to announce that registration for the 2026 Ski to Sea Race is SOLD OUT. Registration opened January 1st and teams signed up at a record breaking pace! On Thursday, January 15th with only 75 spots remaining, we sent a newsletter out to all past racers and supporters with the news and within two hours, all remaining spots were taken. The waitlist already has 125 teams on it.

Teams on the waitlist have been notified how to check their standing and were sent the following messaging, "We will be opening the option for registered teams to request refunds in March, which may allow some teams on the waitlist to secure a spot. For reference, last year 42 teams were refunded, and some of the teams we reached out to had already made other plans or were unresponsive so more than the top 42 teams on the waitlist cleared. Refunds will be accepted until March 31, we will notify any waitlisted teams as spots become available. After April 1, your chances of clearing the waitlist diminish although we do have some people drop out after the refund period. In our best estimate, if you are higher than 80 on the waitlist, if it unlikely you will get in this year but it all depends on who passes by the time we contact them."

Here is a current breakdown of teams for 2026. Hidden team numbers are 21 for Competitive Mixed, 20 for Family, 17 for Car-free, 13 Whatcom Co Open, 10 High School, 9 Veterans, 9 Whatcom Co Mixed, 9 Whatcom Co Women, 8 Competitive Women and 8 Masters.

The Bellingham Traverse

Teams who do not clear the waitlist are being encouraged to consider taking part in our newly acquired event, the Bellingham Traverse. This event is also a team relay that features five legs and it will take place on Saturday, August 29 this year. Registration will open in March, this event does not have a cap like Ski to Sea. You can get more information on the event here. Please note: we may have changes to the published route between now and race day.

We also encourage teams to volunteer for Ski to Sea who aren't racing to give back to the community event they love so much. With over 500 positions available, volunteering is the most exciting way to get involved when not racing. The volunteer form will open on this page of our website on February 1st.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
