BAAY’s State Street Theatre Company Presents: Our Town

Described by Edward Albee as “the greatest American play ever written,” Our Town presents the small town of Grover’s Corners in three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, the play depicts the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually – in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre – die.

BAAY’s State Street Theatre Company (SSTC) is a program dedicated to the artistry and talent of our local youth ages 15-18. SSTC integrates more challenging material and aims to prepare theatre students for collegiate-level work, as well as empower them to understand the significance of their artistic expression. SSTC’s Our Town is directed by Kaleb Van Rijswijck and Buck Brigham, with costumes by Neporina Basaraba and scenic design by Elena Anderson.

About BAAY: Founded in 2006, Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth (BAAY) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching children’s lives through the exploration of the arts. We believe that the arts are an essential component of education. We enroll over 1500 children ages 5-17 annually in our EduArts and Theatre programs, and each year provide over $65,000 in tuition waivers and discounts to remove financial barriers to participation.         We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
