Bellingham ‘ALL IN’ for Climate Action Week Sept. 23-29, 2019
Ten years ago, the Bellingham City Council adopted Legacies and Strategic
Commitments that included reducing the City's impact on climate
change. Last year, Council approved an update to the City's Climate
Protection Action Plan, renewing Bellingham's commitment to reducing
greenhouse gas emissions. Later this month, the City is organizing its
first ever ALL IN for Climate Action Week to celebrate the knowledge, progress
and resources the community has to offer when looking for solutions to address
global climate change at the local level.
Bellingham's ALL IN for Climate Action Week, Sept. 23-29, aligns with the United Nations (UN) Climate Action Summit and Climate Week NYC. We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
