Digital Artists Encouraged To Submit Their Work For $800 Contract
To mark Downtown Sounds' 20th anniversary in 2024, the Downtown Bellingham Partnership (DBP) is inviting local graphic artists to submit portfolios for a chance to design the festival's commemorative logo. The DBP honors Downtown Sounds community-first focus and is eager to award a talented artist with a $800 stipend to capture the spirit of the festival with a unique and memorable logo.
“Downtown Sounds started as a small gathering in an alleyway and now takes over three city blocks. We are already preparing to celebrate 20 years with an even larger event footprint, exciting headline performances, and more,” says Lindsey Payne Johnstone, DBP’s Program Director. “The event’s growth is a testament to the power of music to bring people together and create lasting memories.”
Artists interested in designing the logo for the 20th anniversary of Downtown Sounds are asked to submit portfolios between now and January 10, 2024. The DBP staff and project committee will select a final artist by January 17, 2024 and present a $800 work stipend. The funding is made possible by the Whatcom County Lodging Tax Tourism Promotion Grant recently awarded to DBP to provide financial assistance to promote and execute the event’s milestone season.
The artist contract will require collaboration with DBP staff to align the logo’s inspiration with the organization's mission, review primary concepts to determine edits, and produce the final work product. DBP is flexible on meeting frequency, with an anticipated three meetings over a six-week period. The final design will be recognized with artist credit on DBP's website and receive on-stage appreciation at each Downtown Sounds show.
