Gallery Syre Launches The First Open Call For Art For Students Of Whatcom County

Gallery Syre in Bellingham, WA launches their first Open Call of Art inviting all students of Whatcom County, grades 6 through 13, to submit artwork inspired by the theme “Wishes and Dreams.” This theme is meant to inspire students to envision a future, to express their inner thoughts and to represent a world they would like to live in.

Gallery Syre is home to the permanent exhibition of local artist David Syre. Gallery Syre is hosting this open call to give young artists the opportunity to exhibit in a real gallery environment. A jury of 5 people including David Syre’s art curator, Ana Palacio, will select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners along with 15 other artists. An exhibition of the chosen works will open at Gallery Syre on December 7, 2019 and run through February 27, 2020.

To apply, students must submit by the November 20th, 2019 deadline a completed application form together with an image of their work of art in JPG or PDF format to gallerysyre@gmail.com. Application forms can be requested at gallerysyre@gmail.com.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
