Honey Salon and Gallery is proud to present “Papercuts,” a new collection by Aaron Brick. This new collection is made up of cut paper pieces that are based off of portraits of women. He will also showcase several paintings, in juxtaposition, of male creatives particularly of underground culture. Refreshments, artist meet and greet, and more await at the opening reception December 7 from six o’clock to ten o’clock at Honey Salon and Gallery.
In his new collection "Papercuts" Brick’s cut paper pieces show women in extremes of vulnerability and power. The control and detail depicted in the paper reflects the fragility and intensity in which society deems women. While in the end, they have all endured pains that burn….like papercuts.
In contrast, the paintings are colorful and depict male creatives from the underground culture. The subjects draw connections to the street art style that influenced Brick in the beginning of his career. These show a more vivid final product that still stems from the cut paper.
Aaron Brick is a self taught artist, born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. In his early twenties, he was highly influenced by street art. Particularly in the process of making stencils. He realized he could control the lines in his work better with a blade than with a pencil or a brush. After creating paintings based off of stencils, He found more satisfaction in cutting out the stencils than he did in the final painted product. This new series is a study in how much detail and depth he could create with just cut paper instead of focusing on coloring and shading with brush strokes.
