Increase in Vaccinations Leading to Growing Demand at Event Venues

The rapidly increasing number of people being vaccinated for COVID-19 is unleashing a backlog of demand for weddings, conferences, and family celebrations, according to one of Whatcom County’s largest indoor venues.

“Since state government began allowing venues up to 50% of capacity, we’re seeing more reservations and inquiries about dates,” said Dana Weber, General Manager of the Best Western Plus Bellingham hotel and the adjacent Fox Hall Events Center.

Managed by Providence Hospitality Partners, the Fox Hall Events Center is located at 1661 W. Bakerview Road, just off Interstate 5 Exit 258 (Bellingham International Airport). Fox Hall shares the property with the Best Western Plus Bellingham, which has 132 rooms and completed a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2019. Fox Hall offers 3,750 square feet of space for weddings, celebrations, banquets and corporate meetings with a 100-percent capacity of approximately 200 for meals and 250-300 for theater-style seating.

“For many people, 50% of our capacity is enough to proceed with event plans after going a year with many events canceled or postponed,” Weber said. “We already have meetings booked in April and May. Also, some are anticipating that capacity limits may increase again in a couple months as more people receive COVID-19 vaccinations.”

The pandemic’s onset in March 2020 came just a few months after the completion of improvements at Fox Hall, including new carpet, new sound system, new interior painting and new furnishings in the lobby and bathrooms.

“As one of only a couple local hotel properties that allow guests to bring in their own food or work directly with a caterer of their choosing, Fox Hall’s versatility has made it the home for hundreds of events over the years,” Weber said.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
