OPUS Presents: The Nutcracker

Opus Performing Arts School is proud to present our 2023 production of The Nutcracker at 7:00pm on December 15th, 16th and at 2:00pm on December 16th and 17th at Mount Baker Theatre!

Step into the Stahlbaum family's home, and watch as Clara's world transforms before your eyes as she enters a magical wonderland of toy soldiers, a blizzard of snowflakes, a flock of marshmallow sheep, and many other delightful surprises! From the dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy to the audience favorite of Mother Ginger & her gingersnaps, this classical ballet, with a unique theatrical twist, continues to captivate Bellingham audiences year after year. Set to Tchaikovsky’s magical score, this celebrated story comes to life with beloved characters, intricate hand-made costumes and over 130 dancers from the ballet school of Opus Performing Arts. The Nutcracker includes Opus’ youngest ballet students as cupcakes, peppermints and other denizens of the Kingdom of Sweets, as well as their advanced dancers in the iconic roles of Nutcracker, Peacock and the Sugar Plum Fairy. Gather your friends and family and embark on a journey where bravery and imagination save the day.

The Nutcracker mesmerizes audiences of all ages every year, and this season's presentation includes new surprises in addition to audiences' favorite moments. Opus’ Nutcracker directed by Brooke Evans & Ian Bivins. Choreography by Brooke Evans & Celeste Hartsook. Mother Ginger played by Wren Schultz. Tickets are only available through Mount Baker Theatre, online at mountbakertheatre.com or at the Mount Baker Theatre box office.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
