On July 27, Bellingham biking non-profit Shifting Gears will host a pop-up garage sale at Boundary Bay Brewery to support those looking for low-cost biking options.
The garage sale is an opportunity for those with financial barriers in the Bellingham community to purchase used and potentially new bikes or gear at a lower cost. Shifting Gears wants to provide those facing financial barriers with the ability to experience the joys and benefits of any type of biking.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 27, directly across the street from the weekly Bellingham Farmers Market. Community members are encouraged to stop by the Garage Sale before or after their visit to the farmers market and look through the numerous bikes, bike parts, clothing, and Shifting Gears merchandise that will be available day-of.
“Our hope is that those facing financial barriers will find a suitable bike or gear that meets their needs without breaking their wallet,” says Executive Director Nadine van Niekerk.”In turn, we’ll distribute proceeds made from this event towards our scholarship fund and into our adventure programs for womxn. How awesome would it be if someone found a bike at our garage sale and then used it to go on one of our beginner mountain bike programs?”
The garage sale will start Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. Members of the Shifting Gears board will be in attendance to discuss current, future programs and trips open to the community, as well as have sign-up sheets available.
Shifting Gears is a non-profit creating welcoming recreation experiences that encourage confidence, wellness, growth and joy. By participating in Shifting Gears programs, community members will walk away with the tools that they need to attain their recreational goals.
