Submit Poetry About Your Experience At CASCADIA Now!

Submissions now being considered for the upcoming ekphrastic anthology, “STILLS: Where Cinema and Poetry Meet”

Are you a poet? A writer? Did you attend this year's in person festival? Or watch the films during the online version of the festival? If so, we invite you to submit a written piece about your experience in response to the films or the festival for consideration in the upcoming ekphrastic anthology: STILLS: Where Cinema and Poetry Meet.

This exciting new project is a collaboration with Ravenna Press and will result in the publication of an anthology of poetry and short prose pieces by writers responding to the films, scripts or issues and ideas related to film making, as featured at the 2025 Film Festival. Poems or prose pieces of all styles-- formal, experimental, prose, hybrid--may be submitted.

Submission Details

While the festival itself focuses on women directors, the call for submissions is open to all poets, regardless of gender, identity and publication history. You do NOT need to be previously published to submit.

Up to 3 pieces of work may be submitted by email addressed to The Editors. Please include your work in the body of the email (no attachments) along with a cover note, your address, short bio and the poem or specific aspect of the festival to which your work responds. Place the word STILLS and your last name in your subject line. There is no reading fee. Deadline for submissions is August 1, 2025. All selection decisions will be made solely by Ravenna Press, independent of CASCADIA.

Questions? For details, please visit: CALL.pdf or Contact-Ravenna Press. The book will be released in December 2025, with worldwide distribution. More information is on our website at www.cascadiafilmfest.org

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
