Visit Bellingham Recognized for Outstanding Marketing Campaign at State of Washington Tourism Conference

Earlier this month, State of Washington Tourism held their annual conference, an event that connects Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) from across Washington and recognizes exceptional work. During the conference, Visit Bellingham received an award for Outstanding Marketing Campaign of the Year for a campaign promoting Whatcom County’s scenic byways.

The award-winning Road Trip Series campaign was a collaboration between Visit Bellingham and Scenic Washington, a company dedicated to promoting travel experiences in the state. The campaign showcased Chuckanut Drive and Mount Baker Highway, Whatcom County’s two designated scenic byways.

Visit Bellingham worked with Scenic Washington to tell the story of these byways through compelling photos, videos, and blogs. To gather content for the campaign, a writer/videography team from Capture.Share.Repeat. explored both byways firsthand, even renting a small plane with a bubble canopy to capture images of Mount Baker Highway from above. As part of the final product, a special Road Trip Series landing page was created on Scenic Washington’s website to inspire travelers.

“Recognition from State of Washington Tourism means a lot to our team,” said Amber Vinup, Marketing Director at Visit Bellingham. "There are so many inventive and compelling campaigns happening in destinations across Washington—we're honored the state recognized something exceptional in our work.”

The Road Trip Series campaign is part of Visit Bellingham’s larger effort to promote Whatcom County’s scenic byways. The National Scenic Byways Program was created thirty years ago and designates certain roads based upon their “scenic, historic, recreational, cultural, archeological, and/or natural intrinsic qualities.”

Visit Bellingham | Whatcom County is an independent, 501 (c)(6) nonprofit economic development organization whose purpose is to improve the economy by marketing Bellingham Whatcom County as a premier, year-round visitor, sports, outdoor recreation, arts and cultural, and meetings destination, which supports all travel, tourism, and hospitality businesses and nonprofits in Whatcom County.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
