Western Washington University Women's Basketball Anna Schwecke Selected as Honorable Mention All-American

Western Washington University senior Anna Schwecke capped her collegiate career earning honorable mention recognition on the 2019-20 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America Team.

Anna Schwecke Earned All American Honors

Schwecke (Evergreen, CO/Clear Creek) averaged 12.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, helping lead the Bellingham Vikings to a 22-9 overall record and a trip to the NCAA II Championships in 2019-20. She started all 31 games, leading the team in scoring and ranking 2^nd in rebounding. Schwecke scored in double-digits in 21 contests, including a season-high 29 points on Jan. 18 at Northwest Nazarene.

Schwecke was a unanimous First Team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection after leading the league with .611 field goal percentage and ranking 3^rd with a .856 free throw percentage. Schwecke connected on 149-of-244 shots for the 4^th-best single-season shooting performance WWU program history. Her 85.6% free throw mark also entered the WWU record books as 9^th-best in WWU history.

She becomes the 11^th player in WWU women’s basketball history to earn All-America honors from the WBCA at either the NAIA or NCAA Division II level. She is the first Viking All-American on the hardwood since Taylor Peacocke earned first-team honors during her record-breaking 2016-17 season. There have now been a total of 20 All-Americans in the 49-year history of the program going back to 1971-72.

Schwecke was a three-year starter for the Vikings, scoring 978 points (11.0 ppg) and grabbing 613 rebounds (6.9 rpg) in 89 career games. She fell just short of becoming the 28^th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark in a WWU uniform. She finishes here career ranked 4^th with a 57.1 career field goal percentage (384-for-673), 8^th with a 80.2 free throw pct. (210-for-262), 18^th with 613 rebounds and 15^th with 90 blocked shots. Adding in her freshman year at Colorado-Colorado Springs, Schwecke finished her collegiate career with 1,152 points in 122 games.

The Vikings went 22-9 overall in 2019-20, advancing to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship Game and were selected to play in the NCAA Division II Championships as the No. 7 seed in the West Regional. The NCAA Tournament that was to take place in Honolulu, Hawai'i was canceled due to concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
