Whatcom County's Mt. Baker Bicycle Club Announces the 2024 Chuckanut Classic Ride

The Mt. Baker Bicycle Club opened registration on May 1 for its long-running community cycling event, the Chuckanut Classic. The ride is scheduled for Saturday, September 7.

The ride starts and ends at the Bellingham waterfront near the Portal Container Village. There are routes from 10 miles to a full 100-mile century. 250 to 350 riders from around the region are expected.

Riders will share the road with traffic, but the routes are selected for a combination of sea-views, and low-traffic scenic side roads. Every 15 to 20 miles, riders can use rest stops with free food, drinks, and bathrooms provided by the club and volunteers.

The waterfront start and end location features a host of food and beverage vendors. Coupons for a free slice of Zeek's Pizza and discounted Selkie Scoop ice cream are included with registration. Bin13 Wine Bar, which features a roof-top deck, will donate back $1 from each beverage sold that afternoon to the ride.

The lead sponsor for the ride is Sanitary Services Company, with additional sponsorship from Western Solar, Great Harvest Bread, WECU, and Adventures NW Magazine.

Proceeds of the ride will be split between the non-profit Mt. Baker Bike Club and their 2024 charity partner, Vamos Outdoors Project. Vamos facilitates outdoor recreation for regional Latine, Migrant, Multilingual, and Newcomer youth and families, supports youth development and connects their families with critical resources.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
