Sustainable Connections in Bellingham, Wash. invites the public to attend the Downtown Market Walk on July 21st from 11-3pm. Start your walk at the Community Food Co-op, 1220 N. Forest St and pick up your Market Walk map and passport.
The Downtown Market Walk will be held on the same day as the Downtown Sidewalk Sale and will offer participants a chance to taste their way through Bellingham’s unique markets and specialty food shops. There will be samples and specials at each stop and an event passport for the chance to win delicious local prizes.
Nine local food businesses are participating, including Pure Bliss Desserts, Culture Café at Kombucha Town, Old World Deli, Community Food Co-op, Seifert & Jones Wine Merchants, Bellingham Farmers Market, 11th Hour Tea & Coffee, The Bagelry and Terra Organic & Natural Foods. A list and descriptions of each stop can be found at eatlocalfirst.org.
“Stroll the streets eating samples along the way. Visit favorites and learn about new businesses and how they produce their food and products along the way – it’s a lovely day,” said Sara Southerland Food & Farming Director. “Eating food with a story is rewarding. Our community is so rich with good food and we want to showcase the best local food shops and retailers who are working hard to share that bounty. It’s a time to support our local businesses and celebrate.”
Sustainable Connections says that for shopping at eating locally can mean investing up to 3x as much in our community and that local businesses make more local purchases, contribute more per sales dollar to local charities, sports teams, and causes and provide the most jobs to local residents.
