The Farmers Market Cabbage Toss is Back

On April 2, the Bellingham Farmers Market will be hosting the beloved “Cabbage Toss” event to kick off the main market season. The Cabbage Toss was put on pause for two years due to Covid. The return of the event marks an important point in the organization’s history, it’s 30th anniversary!

Mayor Seth Fleetwood will participate, as well as Market Director, Lora Liegel, Board President, Tiffany Bell of Ten Fold Farms, and Rika Wong of Buu Chan.

The initial remarks will begin at Depot Market Square’s pavilion at 9:45 am. The farmers market will be open from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Market-goers can expect a wide variety of products from over 80 vendors. This includes fresh produce, flowers, artisan foods, and crafts. All vendors are from Whatcom and Skagit counties. New vendors include Waffles in Paradise, Shambala Ancient Grain Bakery, pH8 Vertical Farm, and Steensman Creamery.

The farmers market continues to be a point of food access for all. SNAP EBT and Pandemic EBT cards are proudly accepted, and transactions can be matched up to $40 for fresh fruits and vegetables. Learn more at the market Information Booth.

Customers can RSVP on the Facebook event page or learn more at www.bellinghamfarmers.org

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
