The Opening of Sew Inspired Fabrics in Fairhaven
A new kind of fabric store is stitching its way into Fairhaven this fall. Sew Inspired Fabrics will open its doors the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 28 at 11 AM, welcoming the community to explore Bellingham’s newest destination for fine apparel fabrics and creative sewing.
Sew Inspired Fabrics focuses on ethically sourced, eco-conscious apparel fabrics —including natural fibers such as cotton, linen, wool, silk, hemp, bamboo, and Tencel —along with carefully curated deadstock textiles from mills and designers around the world. The store also carries a variety of indie sewing patterns, notions, and creative gifts.
Founded by lifelong sewist Robin Robertson, Sew Inspired Fabrics fills a much-needed niche in the region. As a longtime Fairhaven business owner and co-owner of the Bellingham Training & Tennis Club, she has been part of the Bellingham community for more than 25 years. After recently stepping back from her role as General Manager, she returned to her first love: sewing. “When I came back to sewing, I discovered there were no apparel fabric stores between Bellingham and Seattle,” she explains. “Ordering online was frustrating — colors were off, textures weren’t what I expected — and I realized many others shared the same experience. That’s when the idea for Sew Inspired was born.”
Beyond retail, Sew Inspired will offer classes and workshops designed to inspire creativity and confidence in sewists of all levels. “I love the craft of sewing and don’t want it to become a lost art,” says Robertson. “By offering classes and community events, I hope to spark creativity and connection — and help people build wardrobes that truly reflect who they are.”
For Robin, opening a store in Fairhaven feels like being home. “As a Fairhaven business owner for over 25 years, I’ve always loved contributing to this community. It’s exciting to add something new that connects creativity, sustainability, and local engagement,” she shares.
Sew Inspired Fabrics aims to become a regional hub for sewists — attracting visitors from across the Pacific Northwest, from Vancouver, BC to Seattle. “Fabric lovers always seek out stores when they travel,” says Robertson. “We hope Sew Inspired becomes that special stop for inspiration, connection, and creation.”
With the Grand Opening on Friday, November 28th at 11:00am- 6pm, it is just in time for sew inspired holiday gifts. “We have some fun kits that make great gifts for kids and adults” says Robertson. Stop by for a visit at 800 Harris Avenue, Suite 101, Bellingham,WA 98225.
