Touchdown! Puppies Score Big Wins in the Bellingham Puppy Bowl

Puppies Found Forever Homes and Raised Funds for Happy Tails Happy Homes

Over 500 spectators and families came to the Bellingham Puppy Bowl at Menace Brewing to cheer on Tails and Paws, the two puppy teams playing in the inaugural event. The adoption event took place on Superbowl Sunday and four puppies found forever homes and over four additional applications are now in process. The event raised over $5,000 to help foster puppies and dogs in need.

One pup helped by the Bellingham Puppy Bowl was Handsome Mike, who was confiscated by animal control from an abusive owner. Because of his abuse he found himself in need of expensive lifesaving surgery, and he was placed on a euthanasia list by the Stockton California Animal Shelter. Happy Tails Happy Homes rescued Handsome Mike, and he was able to get his surgery because of these generous donations. Happy Tails Happy Homes also identified a permanent family home for Handsome Mike.

“The inaugural Puppy Bowl at Menace Brewing was a huge success,” said Laura Adams, Vice President of Happy Tails Happy Homes. “Because of the gracious donations from our community we are able to help pups like Handsome Mike get the medical help they need and deserving homes.”

The Bellingham Puppy Bowl will become an annual event on Superbowl Sunday at Menace Brewing. For more information about puppies and dogs in need, visit www.happytailshappyhomes.org.

About Happy Tails Happy Homes

Happy Tails Happy Homes launched in 2011 when two long-term animal rescuers and advocates, Vicki Niles and Nicki Larson, joined forces to create a rescue that took in the underdogs. Too many times, in their experience working with different organizations, they saw animals with medical or behavioral needs turned away. Happy Tails Happy Homes works hard to take in specifically the ones who need us most; the dogs who are overlooked by others and need a second chance.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
