The Western Washington University soccer programs will each host games at Harrington Field in Bellingham on Saturday and fans are encouraged to cheer on the Vikings with a two-for-one ticket admission special offer that includes a t-shirt and poster giveaways.
The doubleheader on Saturday (Sept. 16) starts with the top-ranked WWU women’s soccer team playing its home opener, beginning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule against visiting Western Oregon at 4 pm. The WWU men’s soccer team will play the second game of the doubleheader, hosting visiting Fort Hays State for a non-conference matchup with a 7 pm start time.
"We are proud of the recognition that both of our soccer programs garnered last year with their accomplishments at the national level,” WWU Associate Athletics Director for Community Engagement Courtney Stringer said. “It’s a special opportunity to have both of the women’s and men’s programs highlighted on a Saturday at Harrington Field."
Fans attending the doubleheader can pay normal ticket price admission upon entry and support the Vikings for the duration of both contests with a two-for-one ticket special rather than paying admission for each game. General admission is $8 for adults and $5 for Western students, faculty, staff and seniors.
Additionally, a special admission offer as part of Youth Team Day will allow any youth soccer player in the 8th grade or younger wearing a youth soccer jersey to be admitted free of charge.
"Our WWU soccer programs are an active part of the Bellingham community,” Stringer said. “We are delighted to find ways for our youth players to experience collegiate level soccer in a fun atmosphere.”
Saturday’s doubleheader will feature two one-of-a-kind WWU soccer t-shirts as giveaway items, available with admission. A women’s soccer t-shirt will be distributed with admission to the women’s game while a men’s soccer t-shirt will be distributed with admission to the men’s game. T-shirts will be available while supplies last.
Schedule posters for both soccer programs, featuring team photos and a schedule of all home games at Harrington Field during 2017, will also be distributed at the admission gate. Halftime entertainment at both games will feature bubble ball soccer games with fans in attendance selected to participate.
The WWU women, ranked No. 1 nationally by the United Soccer Coaches, have opened the season with three victories and carry a 27-game winning streak as well as a 28-game unbeaten streak into the week as the defending NCAA II national champions. The WWU men, coming off the program’s first NCAA II Tournament appearance in program history last season, will enter Saturday after a win at MSU Denver last weekend.
