WSO Celebrates Iconic American Composers in All-American Concert March 26

Gershwin's iconic Rhapsody in Blue will be played by noted pianist Christopher Guzman as he joins the WSO for an All-American afternoon of American masterpieces on March 26. Guzman studied at Juilliard concurrently with WSO Music Director Yaniv Attar, who says, "I am happy to reunite with an old friend from Juilliard. Christopher is on the piano faculty at Penn State, where my other orchestra resides, and that is how we reconnected.  I know our audience will love this concert; his playing is virtuosic, flawless, and expressive, with a big, beautiful sound!" This concert is a celebration of American composers, including  Copland's also iconic Appalachian Spring and Bernstein's On the Town: Three Dance Episodes from the musical of the same name. The concert takes place  Sunday, March 26 at 3:00 p.m,. in the Mount Baker Theatre. Tickets start at $15. For details, call the Mount Baker Theatre Box Office at (360) 734-6080 or visit the WSO website whatcomsymphony.com. A pre-concert lecture by Dr. Ryan Dudenbostel will take place one hour prior to the concert. Admission is free, but seating is limited.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
