Take the scenic route to Bellingham!
I-5 northbound is temporary closed between N Lake Samish Rd (exit 246) and SR 11/Old Fairhaven Pkwy (exit 250) due to debris slides, and all northbound traffic must exist at mile market 246 and follow detours into town.
Luckily, there are several other ways to drive into Bellingham, and they each offer incredible views:
- SR 9 - This highway runs north from Sedro-Woolley to Deming. From Deming, head west on 542 (Mt. Baker Highway) straight into town. Enjoy forested views and glimpses of mountains along the way.
- SR 11/Chuckanut Drive - This stunning and award-winning scenic byway begins in Skagit Valley and winds north through farmland before hugging the coast and entering Fairhaven Village in Bellingham.
- Exit 240 - Take this exit off I-5 to access Lake Samish Road, which takes you through the town of Alger, around Lake Whatcom via Lake Whatcom Blvd, and into Bellingham via Lakeway.
