The 2020 CASCAIDA International Women’s Film Festival would have been April 16-19 before the COVID-19. However now, the 2020 festival films will be on-line May 14-19!
Staring this weekend, CASCADIA is sharing with you some films from our previous festivals. Michele Westmoreland’s documentary “Headhunt Revisited: With Brush, Canvas and Camera,” is the first film. The documentary sold out at CASCADIA’s 2018 festival. It tells the story of Caroline Mytinger, who, in 1926, set out on a four-year adventure to the “Land of Headhunters” in the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea to paint Melanesia’s inhabitants.
Eighty years later, American photographer Michele Westmorland retraced Caroline’s journey and Papua New Guinean painter Jeffry Feeger interpreted contemporary counterparts of Caroline’s paintings. “Headhunt Revisited” connects these artists in a story that is personal and universal, illustrating how art transcends time, genre and geography, continuing to inspire new generations of artists and non-artists alike about the importance of documenting culture and tradition.
You can see it starting Friday, April 17 in a streaming version! For only $5.95, you have access to the film whenever you like over a 48 hours time period. A portion of every ‘ticket’ goes back to CASCADIA. Click on this link: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/headhuntrevisited
The ‘live’ Q&A with director Michele Westmoreland scheduled for 4 p.m., Sunday, April 19 has been moved to next week. Check back for day and times.
