Ferndale

Just under 10 miles north of Bellingham lies Ferndale, a vibrant and charming community located along the Nooksack River. Shop at antique stores, grab a bite or beer on Main Street, relax in a Himalayan salt cave, and explore the more rural farm life in this region around Mt. Baker at serene locations like Hovander Homestead Park and Pioneer Park.

Hovander is a turn of the century park, featuring a Victorian home that is listed on the National Historic Register. Nearby Tennant Lake Fragrance Garden is not to be missed, including the sturdy boardwalk that winds through marshlands and around Tennant Lake. Pioneer Park can be found closer in town. This wooded setting is home to one of the finest collections of original pioneer log cabins in the Northwest. These eleven log cabins, built by the early pioneers of the region, sat alone in the early forests and now are a highlight of annual events like Ferndale's Old Settler's Picnic and the Olde Fashioned Christmas.

We are curating different themed experiences that serve as a free guide to discover everything Whatcom County has to offer.

Eat at farm to table restaurants, explore different waterfront destinations, shop at local businesses, ignite your imagination while touring museums and admiring murals, plus so much more!

Check in at participating locations to earn points that can be used for locally inspired prizes.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
